Summer has arrived, and when it arrives we tend to escape. From the heat, the rhythm, the weight of the city. We trade asphalt for cobblestones. Rooftops for lemon trees. Cities empty out as people return to small villages, remote small islands, shaded gardens.
Suddenly, the places that feel most precious are the ones that feel small at human size.Small enough to walk.Small enough to know your neighbour. Small enough to remember what matters. These are the places that hold us when the rest of the world feels overwhelming. But the smallness doesn’t stop at geography. It shows up everywhere, in the objects we carry and the rituals we return to.
A Fan, A Hat, A Pause
In the heat, our habits shift. We start to notice different things.
The folded fan in someone’s hand.
The vintage hat passed down through generations.
The sunglasses borrowed without asking.
The linen shirt, softened by years and saltwater.
Each one is a choice made a thousand times. Not for show, but for survival, for comfort, for calm.
These small things, these quiet moments, they become our anchors.
They remind us to breathe, to connect, to find joy in the simple act of being. And perhaps, that is the most extraordinary thing of all.
